The following is a list of possible problems in ObjectView. We will continue to update this list.

  1. ObjectView.exe - Common Language Runtime error

  2. Setup does not install sample Web services

  3. Close button is not working

  4. AddressBook sample is not working properly

ObjectView.exe - Common Language Runtime error

Problem: When starting ObjectView you get a Common Language Runtime error.

You may have a beta version of .NET framework loaded on your machine. Try uninstalling the beta .NET framework and install Microsoft .NET Framework.

Setup does not install sample Web services

The sample Web services are installed in the WebServices directory under the ObjectView installation folder. The first time ObjectView runs it attempts to create a virtual directory that points to these sample Web services. However, this might fail due to the following reasons:

  • You may not have Microsoft IIS version 4.0 or above installed locally on your machine

  • You may already have a virtual directory named ObjectView pointed to some other location.

To manually setup sample Web services, do the following:

  1. Open your Internet Services Manager.

  2. Create a virtual directory, name it ObjectView, and point it to: <ObjectView installation directory>\WebServices.

  3. Start ObjectView and create a new project.

  4. Import the *.asmx files, which are located in the virtual directory you just created.

Close button is not working

This bug has happened to a lot of other .NET developers as well. We believe Microsoft is aware of it.  It usually occurs after you close a project and then load another project. We will post a fix as soon as one is available.

AddressBook sample is not working properly

Problem: Only GetAddresses component in AddressBook sample is working. The AddAddress and DeleteAddress components return errors.

This is because IIS prevents updating the Microsoft Access database - Address.mdb.  To fix this problem:

  1. Open your Windows Explorer and select the Address.mdb file, which is located in the folder <ObjectView installation directory>\WebServices\Address.

  2. Right-click and select Properties from the shortcut menu, and then click the Security tab.

  3. Click the Add button. The Select Users or Groups dialog opens.

  4. Select Everyone from the list, click the Add button, and then click OK.

  5. Modify the permissions to allow Everyone full control by checking Full Control box.

Please keep in mind that this is only a fix to allow the ObjectView samples to work. Please use integrated authentication and security when developing your Web services.
